「The + 比較級, the + 比較級」的句型表示「 越～就越 … 」的意思，用在有形容詞、副詞或名詞的句子中。

完整的句型是「The + 比較級 + S + V, the + 比較級+ S + V」，S + V」，是將來源句的三元素adj, adv, N改成比較級就可以囉！由於屬於特殊句型，可以搭配口訣來記：The+比級, the+比級。雖然有點俗，但一記就不會忘的啦！

特殊情形 1：有些形容詞只能修飾事物

句型：The+比較級+ S + V, the+比較級+ it is + for  sb to V

1. 遇到有些只能修飾事物的形容詞時，不可用人當主詞，必須使用it is + 形容詞 + for sb to V的句型來改。
2. 將it is + 形容詞 + for sb to V的形容詞提出來，改成比較級即可。
3. 此類的形容詞有probable, difficult, hard, easy, convenient等。

The harder you study, the less probable it is for you to fail the exam.

(你學習得越努力，你就越不可能考試不及格。)

→ probable只能修飾事情，所以加上虛主詞it，主詞的部分改成for sb表示

(X) The harder you study, the less probable you are to fail the exam.
→ probable不能修飾人

The lazier Ann is, the more difficult it is for her to learn to play the ukulele.

(Ann越懶，她學烏克麗麗的難度就越大。)

→ difficult只能修飾事情，所以加上虛主詞it，主詞的部分改成for her表示

→ difficult不能修飾人

特殊情形 2：形容詞likely可以修飾人與事物

1. likely可以修飾人與事物，因此可以用二種句型。
2. 修飾人：…, the 形容詞比較級 + S + V
3. 修飾事物：…, the 形容詞比較級 + it is + for sb to V

The more recklessly a man drives, the more likely he is to have an accident.

= The more recklessly a man drives, the more likely it is for him to have an accident.

(一個人開車越魯莽，就越有可能發生事故。)

→ likely可以修飾人與事物，因此可以用二種句型。

The more you converse with Liuba, the more likely you are to find her strengths.

= The more you converse with Liuba, the more likely it is for you to find her strengths.
