Upon Ving 用法是什麼？Upon是介系詞，意思是「一…就～」，在這個用法中等於On。

而Upon必須用在當前後二句的主詞相同時，後面接動名詞Ving或名詞。

這用法跟as soon as有什麼不同呢？as soon as使用上比較彈性，可直接連接二個子句，不須考慮主詞是否相同。

也可跟no sooner … than的句型代換。

Upon Ving 用法 = On Ving

1. 要表示「一…就」常用as soon as+S+V的句型，前後二個主詞可相同或不同。
2. 但當前後二句的主詞相同時，可改成On V-ing或Upon V-ing。
3. 秘訣：掌握的概念是主詞相同才可以被省略，如果主詞不同，要用其他的句型 (連結在此)。

As soon as Aaron entered the room, he turned on the light.

= On entering the room, Aaron turned on the light.

= Upon entering the room, Aaron turned on the light.

(Aaron一進房間，就打開了燈。)

→ 主詞相同，都是Aaron，將先發生的事件改成On entering或Upon entering

比較1：

As soon as Aaron entered the room, his mom asked him to clean his desk.

(Aaron一進房間，他媽媽就要求他清理桌子。)

(X) Entering the room, his mom asked him to clean his desk.

→ 二句的主詞不同，是Aaron和his mom，不可以省略。省略後會變成Aaron媽媽進房間後要求Aaron打掃，與原意不合。

比較2：

As soon as the sick woman sped up, she panted.

= Upon speeding up, the sick woman panted.

(這生病的女人一加速，就氣喘吁吁。)

→ 主詞相同，都是the sick woman，將先發生的事件改成Upon speeding up

Upon seeing its master, the dog wagged its tail.

(一看到主人，這狗狗就搖尾巴。)

= On seeing its master, the dog wagged its tail.

Upon receiving the letter sent from her boyfriend, Sandra smiled happily, eager to open the envelope.

(一收到男友的信，Sandra開心地笑了，等不及要打開信封。)

Upon N 用法 = On N

1. 當前後二句的主詞相同時，可以省略先發生的動作主詞，有相對應意思的名詞時，可以使用On +N或Upon +N。
2. 秘訣：掌握的概念是主詞相同才可以被省略，如果主詞不同要用其他的句型 (連結在此)。on與upon都是介系詞，因此後面可以加動名詞。

On arrival at the shop, the shop owner opened the door and welcomed customers.

(一到了店裡，店主就開門迎客。)

→ on + N，等於on arriving

Upon departure, the young lady started to miss her family.

(一離開後，這位年輕的女士就開始想她的家人。)

→ Upon + N，等於Upon departing

Upon its operation, the MRT has attracted many passengers to take.

(捷運一經營運，便吸引了眾多乘客搭乘。)
